Does your back to school shopping list include a faster Internet speed?

Back to school time means shopping for supplies such as markers, pencils, notebooks and a backpack. But have you taken this time to consider if you need to shop for a new Internet speed? Now is a great time to evaluate your Internet usage and needs as your students go back to school.

How do I know I need a faster Internet speed?

Here are some questions to ask yourself.

Do you notice buffering when trying to stream a video?
Do your kids complain about slow speeds?
Does it take a long time to upload pictures?

These are all things that can drive a person crazy. A couple reasons for these issues include but are not limited to an increase in users or devices or an old router.

Did a member of the family have a birthday this summer and receive a new smart device? Have you added another cell phone to your plan? Here are two ways that your Internet speed can be affected.  With more devices on the Internet at the same time, you may notice slowdowns on your network. It may be time to upgrade your plan if you have more Internet-connected devices in the home and/or bandwidth-heavy applications such as Netflix being used.

Do you have an old router? Some old routers have a speed cap stopping the maximum Internet speed possible, which means your old router may be preventing you from receiving the full speed of your Internet plan. It may be time to update your router. You could be eligible to lease a Calix router from DRN depending on what Internet package you subscribe to. These routers support the current 802.11ac standard, which can effectively handle 20 or more devices in your home.

Back to school time demands high speed. Smart TVs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones are in virtually constant use by your students in your home. Give them the speed that they demand.
