Senior year of high school. The times are exciting, and the future is bright…but then you start thinking about your plans after you graduate. Will you go to college? What will you major in? How will you pay for it?  According to CollegeCalc.org, the average annual in-state college tuition in North Dakota was $6,503 for the 2018-2019 academic year.  Those rates seem to continue to rise. Don’t worry – DRN ReadiTech wants to help! Our annual scholarship can be one way to earn money for college.

DRN ReadiTech is pleased to continue its scholarship program this year and participate in the Foundation for Rural Services (FRS) National Scholarship. Students can apply for both scholarships and have the potential to earn $3,000 for their first year of secondary education.

High school seniors who reside within DRN ReadiTech’s cooperative service territory can apply for both scholarships. DRN ReadiTech will award 22 $500 scholarships – two randomly selected applications from each school within the cooperative territory. These schools include Ashley, Edgeley, Ellendale, Kulm, LaMoure, Lisbon, Litchville-Marion, Milnor, North Sargent, Oakes and Sargent Central.

The eligibility for the DRN ReadiTech and FRS scholarship includes:

  • Be a graduating high school senior (home-school students also qualify) with at least a C grade point average (GPA)
  • Receive their local telecommunications service from DRN
  • Be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school
  • Indicate an interest in returning to a rural community following graduation

On the national level, students can also apply for the FRS scholarship. FRS awards 30 one-time $2,500 scholarships to students from rural America. Each year DRN ReadiTech will sponsor students who wish to apply for the scholarship. If a student from our territory should be awarded the scholarship FRS funds $2,000 of each scholarship, and DRN awards the remaining $500.  DRN has had 21 students since 2003 win a national FRS scholarship - in 2019 we had two FRS winners! We are proud of all our local students and their accomplishments!

Deadlines for applying:

  • DRN ReadiTech – February 28, 2020
  • FRS – March 6, 2020
