It’s National Cooperative Month and time to celebrate!  The 2019 theme, “Co-ops: By the Community, For the Community,” fits well with recent cooperative data, stating that there are more than 40,000 cooperative businesses in the United States with 350 million members (many people belong to more than one co-op). These cooperatives generate $514 billion in revenue and more than $25 billion in wages, according to a study conducted by the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives, with support from USDA Rural Development.

DRN is proud to be one of these cooperatives who contributes to the well-being of our rural area. Last year, DRN generated over $4.5 million dollars in net margins and paid out over $3 million dollars in capital credits to its members! Plus, we have an annual payroll of over $3.9 million dollars which contributes to the health and well-being of our communities.

We also employ over 50 people who live and reside in our communities.  Our employee’s children attend local schools.  Employees volunteer countless hours for civic and non-profit organizations.  Many are city councilmen, some are volunteer firefighters while others are 4-H leaders and Sunday School teachers.

Another reason to celebrate—DRN just finished its implementation of a 100 Gig fiber optic infrastructure ring in our network with two 100 Gig connection to DCRN.  This constant momentum to provide state of the art telecommunication services will improve the quality of life for our members.

DRN is celebrating and living the dream of Co-ops: By the Community, For the Community!
